Dating and Marriage

Dating and Marriage

This week the topic was how dating can affect the way your marriages go. We also talked about how dating has changed a lot and it is not for the better. One of the major things that I thought was important to talk about is the transition between dating and hanging out. A quote from Elder Dallin H Oaks says “Knowledgeable observers report that dating has nearly disappeared from college campuses and among young adults generally. It has been replaced by something called “hanging out.” You young people apparently know what this is, but I will describe it for the benefit of those of us who are middle-aged or older and otherwise uninformed. Hanging out consists of numbers of young men and young women joining together in some group activity. It is very different from dating.” This is so true in college today. People just hang out they don’t actually go on dates. I feel like you can only learn so much from just hanging out with out creating diversity in your situation you will not be able to learn new things. When the things that you do are changing it shows you different sides of a person. This is important to know that you are compatible with them in all different circumstances.

There are many aspects that affect a relationship, and you want to make sure they are accomplished in the right order. The different aspects are knowledge, trust, reliability, and touch. Each of these are very important but you want to make sure that one does not outweigh the other.

One other thing that is very popular is cohabitation before marriage. The idea is that you make sure you are compatible while you are living together before you go and get married. The problem with this is once you live together you can get comfortable and then the want to get married decrease. This happens especially to the man in the relationship. There can as be an aspect of separation of finances and other things that is hard to resolve f you end up actually getting married. They way that you date a person has a very large impact on the way your marriage could go. It is important to make sure that you have the right relationship so they you can have a successful marriage. It is also to remember that every relationship will have its ups and its down.
